JOINING AS A level 3 therapist

We recognise that not everyone is ready to go straight to Level 4 (or above) immediately after completing Level 3. Our LEVEL 3 THERAPIST membership aims to recognise that the first step on the road to full qualification as a Sports Massage Therapist has already been taken and that the commitment to take the next step will come in due course.

  • Level 3 Therapists will have completed a Level 3 in Sports Massage Therapy from an Awarding Organisation (VTCT, ITEC, Active IQ, YMCA) accredited by the QCF/RQF national framework for qualifications that meets the SMA's minimum standards for delivery - please read our stance on intensive courses for more information about this.
  • Level 3 Therapists further commit to completing a Level 4 (or higher) qualification within 2 years of membership being approved in this category in order to then be able to apply for Full membership.
If you are already registered on a Level 4/5 course and will complete it within the next 12 months then we recommend joining as a Student member


PLEASE NOTE: as of December 2021 we will not be accepting new applications from anyone studying towards qualifications awarded by Focus Awards at any level as the course content does not meet the National Occupational Standards for Sports Massage Therapy.  Focus Awards are aware of our decision.
